What Does “Visual Member” Mean in K-POP?
Origin of the “Visual” role
The role of a visual member is exactly what it sounds like: to attract people with their looks!
Visuals make the group stand out and are often the member that makes people say, “That group? Oh, the one with that person!”
Because they are chosen for their attractiveness, visual members also play a big role in drawing in new fans.
Difference between “Visual” and “Center”
In K-POP, there are also center members.
Sometimes one member takes on both roles, but they can also be different people.
(For example, TWICE’s center is Nayeon, while the visuals are Tzuyu and Sana.)
The visual member is the one with the most outstanding looks, while the center is the member who has the strongest ability to captivate the audience.
Difference between “Visual” and “All-Rounder”
There’s also a difference between a “visual member” and an “all-rounder.”
A visual member is someone whose strength lies in their looks or visuals.
An all-rounder, on the other hand, is skilled in various areas such as singing, dancing, and rapping.

Why Do K-POP Groups Have a Visual Member?
The role in group image and branding
With so many K-POP groups out there, it’s easy to confuse who’s who, right?
That’s where the visual member contributes by shaping the group’s image and brand.
For example, when you see Felix or Hyunjin, you instantly recognize Stray Kids.
Even non-fans often associate Stray Kids with Felix or Hyunjin.
Impact on fans and media
Since visuals are usually exceptionally good-looking, they naturally attract a huge number of fans.
Most new fans first notice the visual member and then dive deeper into the group.
And because their looks get a lot of attention, visual members are also the ones most frequently featured in magazines and other media.

Male idols often called visuals
Who comes to mind when you think of male visuals? Here are some examples:
BTS: V
While Jungkook and Jin are also considered visuals, V’s unique aura makes his looks stand out even more.

Stray Kids: Hyunjin
Both Hyunjin and Felix are visuals of Stray Kids. This time, let’s spotlight Hyunjin, who has distinctly Asian features and a unique charisma.
EXO: Kai
Known for his overwhelming presence and popularity, Kai has an irresistible charm that captivates everyone who sees him.
ASTRO: Cha Eun-woo
Frequently listed in visual rankings and praised across social media, Cha Eun-woo is admired not only as an idol but also as an actor.
BIGBANG: T.O.P
BIGBANG: T.O.P
With his sharp features and strong presence, T.O.P is often considered BIGBANG’s iconic visual. He’s also active as an actor.
SEVENTEEN: Jeonghan
Jeonghan’s angelic, fair, and cute visuals have made him one of the most popular members, especially in Japan.
NCT: Jaehyun
With so many members in NCT, there are multiple visuals, but Jaehyun is one of the most recognized and admired.

Here’s a list of female visuals:
TWICE: Tzuyu
Tzuyu, from Taiwan, is so stunning that she was scouted not only in Taiwan but also in Korea.
TWICE: Sana
Sana, from Japan, is one of TWICE’s most popular visuals in Korea, known for her charming and sweet aura.
Red Velvet: Irene
Even in her 30s, Irene’s beauty continues to evolve, making her a constant icon of admiration in Korea.
BLACKPINK: Jisoo
Jisoo was scouted not only by YG Entertainment but also by other major companies like SM.
IVE: Wonyoung
With her overwhelming visuals, Wonyoung is considered one of the 4th generation’s leading idols. She is both the visual and the center.
aespa: Karina
While all aespa members are gorgeous, Karina’s striking presence stands out the most.
BABYMONSTER: Ahyeon
Known for her big eyes and baby-like visuals, Ahyeon is considered BABYMONSTER’s representative visual.
