Meaning of “Teaser”

A teaser (티저) is a preview released before a comeback — usually in the form of short clips, concept photos, or visuals.
It shows just a little bit of the upcoming song or concept to build anticipation.

Think of it as:

Teaser = A tiny glimpse before the full release.

Teasers are often the first time fans see the new visuals, styling, or vibe of the comeback, which is why teaser day is such a big deal.

Types of Teasers

There are different kinds of teasers, and the format can vary by company or group.
But generally, they’re released in this order:

  • Concept Photo Teaser
  • MV Teaser
  • Highlight Medley (album preview)
  • Performance Teaser (sometimes)

Usually:

  • Concept photos drop first on X / Instagram.
  • Then the MV teaser is released on YouTube (often around 30–60 seconds).

Some groups also release:

  • A highlight medley (lets you listen to a few seconds of each track)
  • A performance teaser (dance preview)

Why Are Teasers Important in K-POP?

Because teasers are often seen by more people than the actual comeback stage.

If the teaser looks cool →
Fans and even non-fans will say:

“This comeback looks promising! Their visuals are insane!”

And that creates buzz.

But if the teaser doesn’t land well, people might react like:

“Hmm… I don’t really get this concept…”
“What was the stylist thinking??”

And sometimes, that negative impression sticks all the way into the comeback.

How to Enjoy Teaser Season (for Beginners)

Honestly, there are no rules.
You can just enjoy the excitement however you like!

But here are some tips if you’re new:

  • Follow the group’s official account on X/Instagram
  • Check the comeback teaser schedule (they usually post one graphic with all dates)
  • Be online when the teaser drops and share your reactions with friends or fandom mutuals 💬

Teasers are usually released according to Korean Standard Time,
so if you’re overseas, sometimes they may drop early morning or midnight.
But again — just enjoy it in the way that feels natural to you!
