What Does 올팬 (All-Fan) Mean?
올팬 (olpaen) is simply the Korean phonetic spelling of the English phrase “all-fan.”
In other words—it’s originally English!
<Korean Tips>
- Korean doesn’t have long vowel sounds, so all becomes ol.
- Korean also doesn’t have the “f” sound, so it becomes p.
→ That’s why fan is pronounced paen (펜) in Korean.
Meaning:
An 올팬 is someone who loves every single member of a group—
someone who just can’t choose one bias.
It’s very close to the Japanese idea of being a 箱推し (hako-oshi).
It can also mean
“I have a bias, but honestly… I love everyone.”
- 저는 올팬이에요. — “I’m an all-fan.”
- 올팬인데 최애는 지민! — “I’m an all-fan, but my bias is Jimin!”
OT7 vs. 올팬 — What’s the Difference?
The difference between “OT7/OT8/OT9” and “올팬” is mainly how specific the number is.
- OT7: Loving all 7 members of a group
(For BTS it makes sense; for SEVENTEEN it would be OT13.) - 올팬: Loving everyone in the group, regardless of how many members they have
OT◯ is mostly used by international fans,
while 올팬 is commonly used in Korean fandom culture.
They both mean “I love all the members,” just expressed differently.
